January 2012

Hi Everyone! and Happy 2012!

I think this is going to be a great year! I’m sitting here, thinking how we are skating through this winter (hush my thoughts) and lo and behold, it starts to snow. NOOooo I say to myself, and jump up to check the weather report.  Sure enough, snowstorms in the forecast. So...that’s Sharon snow, in case you were wondering.

I hope you all had a wonderful holidays and are making smart work of your resolutions; I’m sure the diets and exercise and, well, buying less from China for me, are all working out. It’s only January, but before you know it, spring will be upon us and we’ll be galloping off down the trail or to the show arena!  As a matter of fact, Scottsdale is coming up before you know it. Good luck to all our competitors heading that way!

We are hard at work on our Memorial Day Weekend show. Things are coming together nicely and it’s looking to be a wonderful opportunity to ride an A class show that still has the feel of a fun, family event. I know I can’t wait to hear John Givens voice overhead! Our emphasis is to make this a more affordable and opportunistic event for first timers, or people who just want to dabble at this level. It’s extremely low key, and there is always a friendly face from the Inland Empire Arabian Horse Club close by willing to help give direction or encouragement.

Heidi Hedlund has agreed to be our show manager! What a wonderful surprise that was, and thank you so sincerely, Heidi. She announced it at our last meeting, and it was complete coincidence that she was also the recipient of the Presidential Award Trophy for outstanding support to the IEAHC in 2011. As you all probably recall, there were obstacles to overcome, both physically and financially, in Washington. There were sick horses and sick pocket-books, and it was a very rocky year!  Many clubs closed and many more are still reeling from the affects. Heidi was exemplary in her belief in the wonderful qualities of the club, and so that lovely (and quite heavy) trophy sits with her for a year. (Don’t think you might sneak in and snatch it from her...if you failed, and she whacked you a good one with it––you’d be done in.)

Anyway, I just wanted to reach out and say ‘Hi’, send you greetings and healthy wishes for you and your four legged friends. I hope this year blesses you with lots of time in the saddle or just cavorting with your favorite pony. Those are exactly my intentions as well. In the wise words of Willy Wonka, “So much time and so little to do...” If only it were true!  :)

Until next time,

Sincerely Your President,

Sharon
